Take Power Breaks

Take Power Breaks
mental massage instead of just mental time off
Usually, we take breaks to recharge ourselves, but ways we do it aren’t usually efficient ways of actually recharging our minds. We zone out, let go, and give our minds a rest. BUT these things are only mildly refreshing for the mind. They provide bread crumbs, but not the bread.
So, instead of just taking a break, take a POWER break.
Power breaks are a lot more relaxing and energizing.
How do you do it?
Command your mind to focus on one physical sensation at a time (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch), or one object of attention and actively let go of thoughts as they come.
How?
When thoughts would pull you away from your present experience, simply redirect your focus and attention to something you are seeing, hearing, feeling, etc. Labeling what you are focusing on with just one word can help. (IE Sky. Birds. Wind. Breath.)
If walking, feel your feet on the ground for a minute. If eating, really taste the flavors of the food for a minute or feel its temperature for a minute. If listening to music, truly tune in rather than tune out. Hear the different instruments, beats or rhythms. And actively let go of thoughts as they come.
Basically give yourself a mental massage instead of mental time off.
It will be deeply recharging and energizing.
Power breaks are very active. You are actively directing your focus and thoughts rather than allowing them to pull you like dangling from the string of a balloon being blown in all different directions.
Since this charges up regions of the brain that provide deeper relaxation and rejuvenation, you will have much more recharging than if you had just taken a regular break and let your mind drift and zone out.
Power breaks quiet the busyness of mind chatter which can even result in sudden clarity as wisdom bubbles up to the surface.
So, when you take a break today, don’t just take a break. Take a power break.
